Free Indeed
Every 4th of July we celebrate the birth of a nation built on the desire for liberty. We express gratitude to all the military men and women who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice every day so we can enjoy the freedoms we have.
There is another freedom that no government can grant or circumstance can take away.
Jesus said in John 8:36: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
What an incredible promise.
When we think about the freedom offered through Jesus it’s not the freedom to do whatever we want.
It is freedom from everything that holds us back from being who God calls us to be.
It is freedom from guilt that keeps reminding us of a past we regret.
It is the freedom from shame that tells us, “You are not enough.”
It is the freedom from fear that tells us, “Don’t take the leap of faith.”
Many of us walk through life being held captive to the things that Jesus already paid the price for.
Why to hold on to the labels that he wants to remove?
Why hold on to your past when Christ has a new identity for you?
The cross was not only about forgiveness it was about freedom.
Jesus did not come to simply improve our lives; he came to transform us. His death and resurrection made a way for us to step into a freedom only God can give and it is accessible to everyone who is willing to open their heart and mind to receive.
That does not mean that every day there will be fireworks, hotdogs, and apple pie, but it does mean that the trials we will face do not have the final say in our lives.
True freedom is not found in our circumstances, it is found in our Savior.
This week, walk and talk like someone who has been set free.
Because when the Son sets you free…
You are free indeed.
