God? Can You Hear Me?

Hello?

Hello? God?

God? Are you there?

God? Can you hear me?

Hello??? God, hello???

Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever felt like you were (or are) standing on the edge of the abyss, looking down and not seeing the bottom? Maybe you’ve stood on the shoreline, looking out over the vastness of the sea and simply felt small. Or maybe you’ve simply felt like you’ve been invisible. Why is it so hard for us to understand what the Scriptures plainly tell us? God hears every cry of the hearts of those who love HIm, but sometimes in the silent places we begin to say hello? We begin to wonder if He hears us. We begin to question that which we know to be true.

God will never leave us nor forsake us; we know this. So why do we find ourselves in desolate and silent places? Why do we hear every voice talking at us, every voice yelling and every voice criticizing, but we don’t hear the One voice that speaks straight to our hearts? When was the last time you contacted God by knee mail and simply said thank-you? We don’t have to beg God to talk to us, we simply have to listen. Is His answer in the gentle breezes of a warm evening? Is His answer in the salty-air as you look out over the vastness of the sea mentioned above? Perhaps His answer is in the three hour traffic jam leaving Pittsburgh after a day spent hearing what the world would try and make us believe.

Many times over the past several months I have said “hello?” I’ve wondered if the Lord could hear me and I’ve wondered why I couldn’t hear His voice. One day not too long ago, I cried my eyes out while driving and literally begged God to answer me. Nothing… I felt like I was splintering and told someone I was cracking. I heard God’s voice in this person’s response. He said to me “That’s where God’s grace can enter in, through the cracks.” So powerful and so true! When the only voice you can hear is your own, and you begin to feel the cracks appear, let His Grace be the soothing balm you need to heal those cracks. Let His voice fill the ears of your soul as He says “Hello, my beloved child. I am here with you and you are not alone.”

Psalm 91:1 says “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” I hear the voice of God whisper this to me and it reminds me that those silent places I visited were not places where God was hiding from me, but the places God had prepared for me. In John 14:2-3 Jesus says “ My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Jesus said… I heard.

Do you hear Him?
