Walking in Victory

2 Kings 13 recounts the story of King Jehoash of Israel and the prophet, Elisha. When the King visited the prophet, he wept over him. However, the Prophet Elisha takes King Jehoash from where he was—a place of sorrow—to an understanding of how to walk in victory!

To walk in victory…

1. Take a stand! When God wants to do something in your life, it won't happen when you're crying, feeling bad for yourself, or having a pity party. God responds to faith in action. That's why the prophet Elisha said, "Get your bow and some arrows." In life, we have a choice to make. We can either complain about the situation or stand up and begin to fight the fight of faith and see God do something great in our lives.

"Be strong in the Lord and the power of his might." Eph. 6:10

You need to stand up and realize you've been empowered by God to win in every situation you face.

2. Ask yourself who you are connected to. In this passage, The King of Israel could not see how he could win the victory over his enemies. The prophet, Elisha, instructed the king to put his hands on the bow. After he put his hands on the bow, the prophet put his hands over the king's hands. If you don't have a spiritual mentor or spiritual mother or father, you'll never reach the destination God intended for you. The King of Israel needed Elisha in his life to bring correction and direction, and to see even further than what the king could see himself.

3. Don't just go through the motions. The last part of this story doesn't end well. The prophet, Elisha, sees how the king casually shoots only three arrows into the ground. The king was just going through the motions with no passion or vision of what God wanted to do. This so angered the prophet that he said, "If you would've shot five or six arrows you would've completely destroyed the enemy, but since you have only shot three arrows you will only defeat the enemy three times."

How often do people treat the things of God casually, take a casual approach to their spiritual life, or treat church/work of God like it's just another social club? If you're not serious about taking ground for God and seeing His kingdom advanced, your purpose in life will never be fulfilled.

Take action! Follow these three steps today, and see God use you mightily!
