Wisdom to Find the Light in the Darkness

Recently, I was working on the lighting system that powers the stage lights at the church and God revealed something to me that was profound.  Learning and using the software that runs the lights has been a challenge for me since I started serving in that ministry.  The original software we had was a little older and simple, yet cumbersome.  The new software we moved to is full of features and customization yet incredibly hard to wrap your head around.  I feel like this software somehow taught me some important lessons on God's will for us.

The project to move from one system to another was an immense challenge.  I had to start from scratch and learn something completely new to me.  I feel like people new to our faith stare at the Bible with the same intimidation.  It could be easy for them to think:  “This is a huge book and I have no clue where to start” . There are so many things to learn in there that we never fully grasp God's Word.  As I stared at the 330  page lighting software manual, I felt pretty similar.  I felt like I was never going to understand how to use all these different features to produce a light show that had the excellence our sanctuary deserves.

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” —James 1:5

We should all pray for wisdom from God, especially around His Word and what it says we should do in and through our lives, but what do you do about something like this lighting software? Will God give you wisdom on lighting software?  Yes, God can just hand over the wisdom to anything you need, He is all-knowing and all-powerful, but maybe He has other plans.

What did God give me to help me with this lighting software?  It wasn't the manual, it wasn't a YouTube tutorial, what He gave me was a hunger to know more about it so that I could effectively use it as a tool.  The same thing applies to our life and His Word.  We can open the Bible and read, just like I read the manual of this lighting software, however, without a hunger to know it well, to know it intimately, we won't know how to truly apply the knowledge within it to our lives.

Stay hungry to learn more because He has provided us a manual for our lives and there is so much knowledge that we've yet to uncover.  There are features to His plan that we've yet to understand that will make an incredible, unbelievable light show out of our lives.

"For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord.  So live as people of light!" —Ephesians 5:8

God's Word is full of everything we need to learn to use all of our fixtures for what He's called us to, so let's shine the light of Jesus into this dark world!
