Your Road to Damascus

Have you ever had a moment that changed your entire direction in life? God often meets us unexpectedly and changes the trajectory of our lives just like Saul on the road to Damascus.

Saul was a man who was a persecutor of Christians. While confidently on his way to Damascus to arrest Christians he had a “suddenly “ encounter with Jesus that changed him from a persecutor to one of the most influential preachers of the gospels.

During this encounter he was blinded by a light from Heaven, and the Lord revealed himself to Saul and asked him “Why are you persecuting me” from there he was blinded for 3 days and led to Damascus where he met a believer called by the Lord to lay hands on Saul and restore his sight. From there, Saul was baptized, filled with the Holy Spirit, and completely transformed (Acts 9) .His name changed from Saul to Paul.

When God wants to transform us or redirect our life’s path, we will often experience similar scenarios that are relative to Saul’s experience, such as:

  • Blindness- or a feeling of not knowing what is happening in our lives.

  • Surrender- when we are confused or uncertain we often are more willing to surrender and allow God to work in us and through us.

  • Divine Encounter- when we are surrendered, that is when we can hear the voice of God.

  • Rebirth- Once God gets us out of our own way, that is when we are reborn and renewed in mind and spirit.

A Damascus moment may be a conversation, a quiet conviction, or a moment of crisis that leads us to spiritual transformation and redirection on our life’s journey.  It is God saying, “Come closer, I have something greater for you.”

Do you have an area of life right now where you feel God is trying to get your attention to get you on the right path?

If so, pray this prayer today: Lord, if I am heading the wrong way in my life, I want you to stop me. Open my eyes to see you, even if it means being uncomfortable and changing directions. I want you to be the lamp to my feet and the light to my path.

Amen

Be sure to identify the beauty on the road to your Damascus moment, it will teach you, stretch you, and bless you.
