When you Don’t Feel Like Enough . . . Say Yes Anyway
Do you ever struggle with feeling like you’re just… not enough?
Like there’s nothing particularly special about you?
Like, how could God really use someone like me, anyway?
But here’s the crazy part:
Would you ever look at someone else and think that?
Would you ever look at another woman and say:
“There’s nothing special about her. I don’t think God could really use someone like that, so she might as well not even try.”
Of course not! That thought would never cross our minds.
So why are we so quick to believe it about ourselves?
YOU’RE NOT ALONE
The good news is… you're not the only one who feels this way.
Not only do so many women around you silently wrestle with the same self-doubt, but Scripture is filled with people who felt the exact same way—people whose insecurity almost kept them from stepping into their calling.
In fact, your name is on a list with some pretty important biblical heroes:
Sarah thought she was too old to have a baby. (Genesis 18:11–14)
Moses didn’t think he was good enough to lead. (Exodus 3:11–12)
Esther feared speaking up could cost her life. (Esther 4:10–14)
Jeremiah believed he was too young. (Jeremiah 1:6–8)
Peter felt too sinful to be used by God. (Luke 5:8–11)
And the truth is… they weren’t entirely wrong.
Sarah was old.
Moses wasn't a confident speaker.
Esther could have died for stepping out.
Jeremiah was young and inexperienced.
Peter’s shame could have disqualified him.
BUT GOD NEVER ASKED THEM TO BE ENOUGH
Here’s the heart of it all:
God never asked them to be enough on their own.
And He isn’t asking you to be either.
“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:5
MEET GIDEON
We see this truth play out so clearly in Gideon’s story (Judges 6).
Israel was once again under attack—this time by the Midianites—and the people were hiding out in caves, completely stripped of food and hope. They cried out to God for deliverance.
And God’s answer? Gideon.
“Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
— Judges 6:14
But Gideon’s response?
“Pardon me, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
— Judges 6:15
Sound familiar?
Gideon immediately begins listing his insecurities.
He’s focused on everything he isn’t—instead of the One who is.
But God doesn’t flinch.
He responds with one simple truth:
“I will be with you.”
— Judges 6:16
GOD’S PRESENCE IS THE GAME-CHANGER
God wasn’t asking Gideon to win the battle in his own strength.
He was asking Gideon to trust Him and take the first step.
And the same is true for us.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
— Isaiah 41:10
He knows our limitations.
He sees every fear, every flaw, and every excuse—and He still chooses us.
YOU CAN OBEY BEFORE YOU FEEL BRAVE
It’s okay to have feelings.
It’s normal to feel nervous, afraid, or unsure.
But don’t let those feelings hold you back.
Tell God how you feel… but then do what He told you to do.
Gideon didn’t start out confident.
He started out afraid, unsure, and insecure.
But what mattered most?
He obeyed anyway.
And when he did, God came through.
With just 300 men, Gideon’s army defeated a massive enemy force.
In the natural, that victory was impossible.
But with God?
Impossible becomes possible.
LET THIS BE YOUR “YES” MOMENT
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to ignore God’s prompting—how often I’ve delayed obedience, waiting for courage to magically appear.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Every time I step out, even afraid… God meets me.
He’s never failed to show up. Not once.
Friend, God is not asking you to be the strongest, smartest, or most qualified.
He’s simply asking if you’ll say yes.
