Making of a Godly Man

DISCUSSION

Trust in the Lord!

Read: Genesis 22, Hebrews 11:8-12, 17-20

  • What did Abraham say that showed Isaac that he believed in God? How did Abraham’s actions back up his words?

  • What traits did Abraham exhibit that made him a godly leader for his family? (reference Genesis 22 and Hebrews 11)

  • Why was it important for Abraham to prove that obedience to God was his number one priority, above even protecting his only son? Why do you think Abraham was able to trust God in this situation?

  • Describe a time when you obeyed or disobeyed the voice of God and the consequences of that decision. How did the consequences of your decision affect your family or others around you?

  • What characteristics do you think you need to be a good father or leader of your family?

God is the Perfect Father

Read: 1 Samuel 2:22-25 References: 1 John 3:1, Lamentations 3:22-23, Matthew 6:26, Psalm 23:1-11

  • We saw an example of a good father with Abraham. In what ways did Eli fall short as a father in 1 Samuel 2? Why do you think he failed to punish his children? Based on the word of God, what is our responsibility as parents when our children fail?

  • What characteristics does God have that make him a perfect father? How can we imitate those characteristics in our own families?

  • What did Pastor Nathan mean when he said, “You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are”? How can we ensure that we are not just teaching our children but leading them and showing them what it means to serve the Lord?

  • How has understanding the love of God the Father affected the way that you feel and act as a parent? What qualities of God do you want to see more of in your parenting and family?

ACT ON IT

Think about the example that you set for your children, or if you don’t have children, the people around you. Come up with one way that you can not only teach your children the way they should live, but also show them the way they should live.

BEFORE YOU CLOSE:

Read: Luke 6:38

When we give financially, we partner with a supernatural God! As we give it to Him and ask Him to bless it, we know that we will see it given back to us. Just like you get a certain harvest when you sow one seed, and a larger harvest if you sow two seeds, what you sow into the kingdom of God determines what you receive back.

If you haven’t already, take some time to obey God in the tithe this week and ask Him what He would have you give above the tithe. Thank the Lord that He never changes and that He will fulfill all His promises to you as you give to Him! You can do so by donating on the Champion Center App or through PushPay.

PRAYER, PRAYER REQUESTS, AND TESTIMONIES

Ask Champion Group members to share any prayer requests or testimonies they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Take time to pray and ask if anyone would like to receive salvation, baptism of the Holy Spirit, or prayer for a physical need.
