DISCUSSION

Abraham’s Fear Turned into Faith

Read: Genesis 15:1-8

  • Why do you think God took Abraham outside in verse 5? What did going outside symbolize?

  • What areas of fear might Abraham have been facing? How did God’s words and actions help him change his fear into faith?

  • Pastor Nathan taught us that we have to consecrate our dreams and desires to God so that fear cannot touch them. How did Abraham live a consecrated life? What steps can you take to consecrate your dreams and desires to God?

Have Faith in Your Source (God)

Read: Luke 9:37-43, Hebrews 11:1-3

  • In Luke 9, what is the difference between Jesus and His Disciples? How does knowing that both Jesus and the disciples and the crowd were all fully human affect your ability to believe that you can have faith without fear like Jesus?

  • In your experience, what kinds of thoughts give way to fear and unbelief? How can we guard our minds against fear?

  • How does knowing our source (the Lord) help us combat fear? What happens if we trust in people to be our source of provision, purpose, or promotion?

  • In light of Hebrews 11:1-3, what role does speaking have in us exercising our faith and overcoming fear?

Make it Personal

Give a testimony of something God has filled in your life prior to today.

What about God makes him trustworthy to you? How would you describe God as your source?

How have your past victories in faith helped to fuel you on as you face new challenges?

What do you think causes you, or people in general, to fear that God won’t do what He has promised in their life?

In what areas do you have fear that needs to be replaced with faith?

What helps you build your faith? What keeps you from operating out of fear?

ACT ON IT

Think about what might be causing you to have fear instead of faith. Take some time this week to find three scriptures that declare God’s promises over your life and turn them into decrees you can use to

BEFORE YOU CLOSE:

This week Campus Director Mark Benedetti shared on how the law of sowing and reaping works with regard to our finances.

Read: Galatians 6:7-9

When we plant strawberry seeds, we expect to get strawberries! In the same way, when we plant carrots, we expect to get carrots, not strawberries or bananas! In the same way, we know that when we sow our finances as a tithe or an offering, we will receive a financial harvest, according to the Word of God! If you want to see this principle in action in your life and desire to bless the Lord with your tithe or offering, you can do so by donating on the Champion Center App or through PushPay.

PRAYER, PRAYER REQUESTS, AND TESTIMONIES

Ask Champion Group members to share any prayer requests or testimonies they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Take time to pray and ask if anyone would like to receive salvation, baptism of the Holy Spirit, or prayer for a physical need.

Filled: Week 3

GOAL:

This week we will learn about what it means to pound the ground and  receive everything that God’s Word promises us.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  • What are you most looking forward to doing when the weather gets warmer?

  • Who has been the biggest influence in your life and in shaping you into the person you are today?

REVIEW:

Ask Champion Group members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

DISCUSSION

Pound the Ground

Read: 2 Kings 13:14-19

  • In verses 18 and 19, why do you think the King stopped pounding the arrows after hitting them against the ground 3 times?

  • How do you think Elijah’s attitude was different than the King’s attitude toward the Aramites?

  • What effect did the King’s complacency have on the entire kingdom of Israel? How was the result different than God’s best for the Israelites?

Read: Exodus 14:10-18

  • How did Moses see the situation differently than the rest of the Israelites?

  • Why did God rebuke Moses? What instruction did Moses give that God then corrected?

  • Who was more faithful to God’s instruction? Why?

  • Why do you think God had the King hit the arrows on the ground and Moses raise his staff over the water?

  • Describe a time when you felt like you related to one of the characters in the passages we looked at today (Moses, Elijah, the King, or the Israelites). How have you grown or changed since that situation?

Make it Personal

Describe a time when you found yourself thinking something was too small or too big for God.

Is it harder for you to believe that God will do things that seem big to you or things that seem small to you?

What can we do to stay in faith from the moment that we pray to the moment we see our answer? That is, what can we do to pound the ground?

In the past, what has caused you to give up on pounding the ground and become content with where things are?

What effect does our persistence have on our children and our family? Testimonies can fuel the faith of the next generation! If you can, share a testimony from your parents or grandparents that has impacted your faith in God.

ACT ON IT

Evaluate your life to find areas where you have stopped praying and believing God for something you want or need. Look up three scriptures that support what you are believing God will do and use them in your prayer time and any time a negative thought or word comes against your belief. As we fix our eyes on Him, won’t He do it? Yes He will!

BEFORE YOU CLOSE:

This week Pastor Nathan talked about trusting God rather than our own understanding when it comes to tithing and our finances.

Read: Proverbs 3:5

In our natural minds, it may not make sense to give money to God first, instead of paying your bills, or something else. But when we trust what God tells us, rather than what our natural minds would tell us, we will see an overflow in our lives!

Filled: Week 2

GOAL:

This week’s we will learn about what it means to press into God for a miracle and what part we play in seeing that miracle happen.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  • Share briefly about a  book, podcast, or sermon have you read/listened to recently that has impacted the way you live your life.

REVIEW:

Ask Champion Group members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

DISCUSSION

Press In

References: John 2:1-11, Genesis 18:16-33

  • What roles did the bridegroom, Mary, Jesus, and the servants play in the miracle in John 2? Why would the miracle not have happened without each one of them?

  • Read Genesis 18:16-33. What do you think Abraham did to cause God to want to share His plan with Him?

  • In what way did Abraham press in to God during this conversation? What do you think pushed Him to try to convince God to save the city?

Keep on Pressing

References: Galatians 6:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:13 Matthew 25:14-30

  • Once we have ask God to move a situation on our behalf, we need to persevere and do what God has told us to do, expecting results! What do you think Biblical perseverance looks like?

  • What Bible characters demonstrate this kind of perseverance to you?

  • Think about the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). Which characters persevered? How was their reward different than those that did not persevere? What do you think this parable tells us about persevering and fulfilling the purposes God has revealed to us?

Make it Personal

What are you doing now that seems insignificant, but you know it will bring about a result that you desire to see in your life?

How do you think God responds to persistence?

Why do you think people put limits on what God can do through them?

What would you tell someone who doesn’t think that they are significant enough, or that what they are doing is significant enough to be used by God?

Describe a time when you had to press in to see God do something in your life. What did you have to start doing? What did you have to start doing? When did you realize that you couldn’t do it on your own and you needed to invite Jesus into your situation?

ACT ON IT

This week, look at your habits and think about what you could be doing, or what you need to stop doing, in order to press into the presence of God. Decide on one habit that you want to start or stop this week and ask the Holy Spirit to help you honor this commitment so that you can use well what God has given you already.

BEFORE YOU CLOSE:

This week Pastor Nathan talked about the blessing that comes when we are faithful to give a full 10% of everything we earn to the Lord.

Read: Malachi 3:10

The tithe is an opportunity to give to the Lord that has been around since the first family inhabited the Earth, and blessing has always followed those that were faithful to give to the Lord what belongs to Him.

Filled: Week 1

GOAL:

This week’s discussion is about trusting God to fulfill every need and desire that we have.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  • If you attended LEAD last weekend, what was the biggest take-away you got from the sessions?

  • Describe a time when someone helped you or blessed you in a way that went above and beyond what was expected.

REVIEW:

Ask Champion Group members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

DISCUSSION

More than enough

References: 2 Kings 4:1-7

  • How did the woman’s level of obedience determine what she received from God? What do you think would have happened if she would have stopped with only a few jars?

  • Do you think that God knew in advance that the woman would have more than enough left over? Why or why not?

  • How is God’s provision for the woman a reflection of His Goodness?

From Survival to Abundance

References: Exodus 12:34-36, Psalm 37:4

  • In Exodus 12, what struggle were the Israelites facing? In verses 34-35, how does God take the Israelites from a place of survival to a place of abundance?

  • The Psalmist tells us that God gives us the desires of our heart when we take delight in Him. What do you think the Israelites were doing that showed that they were taking delight in God? How can we delight ourselves in God today?

  • What factor do you think obedience played in both the life of the woman in 2 Kings 4, and the Israelites in Exodus 12?

  • Consider the history of the Israelites. What different beliefs did they use as the foundation of their life? How did trusting in people or gods other than God affect God's ability to fulfill their needs and desires?

Make it Personal

What is the foundation of your life? How is it different now than before you were saved?

How easy is it for you to trust God to fulfill all your needs and desires?

Describe a time when God filled the desires of your heart. How did His work affect your faith and understanding of His goodness?

How does the knowledge that God wants, and is able to, fulfill all of our desires affect your faith?

God always uses what we have and are willing to give to Him. How does this knowledge affect the way you look at yourself? How does that affect the way you view God?

Is there anything that you need to shut the door on in order to allow your faith to flourish?

ACT ON IT

Think about an area where you feel like you have lack, or where you in your own strength do not have enough to fulfill the need or desire that you have. Ask God to show you what you do have, and then ask Him to fill your life, like he filled the woman’s jars. Ask Him to use what you have to do more than you could ever imagine. Ask Him if there is anything that you need to do to make yourself more available to Him so you can see Him at work in your life!

BEFORE YOU CLOSE:

This week Pastor Joie Miller gave a message on the supernatural feeding of the 5000.

Read: Matthew 14:13-21

Jesus did not choose to create food from rocks or to go buy food. Instead, he chose to use what they had to bless the multitudes. When we give to God, we can be confident that He will use what we have and cause multiplication in our finances and in our life! If you want to see this principle in action in your life and desire to bless the Lord with your tithe or offering, you can do so by donating on the Champion Center App or through PushPay.
